The idea for a design center was born from the realized need in Southern Delaware for a more sophisticated and innovative approach to design. Ed Albers and Michael Cusumano feel that a resource was needed to showcase a total home environment. DCOR is not a traditional furniture store. DCOR is a tool for homeowners, contractors, architects and other craftsmen looking for a model which highlights our vision of how living in a home may feel.
The Design Center of Rehoboth invites you through an arbor and gates back to a transformed oasis of outdoor and indoor living spaces showcasing visionary combinations of tile, flooring, lighting, cabinetry, furniture, artwork and accessories. These spaces exude a welcoming, warm and comfortable setting which we interpret as a necessary part of each and every interior/exterior design project we embark on.
Our inspiration for a project is directed by open dialogue with our clients, the architecture and the surroundings. We will help you make choices with respect to your budget without compromising the integrity and quality we deliver in the finished design.
From his initial start as an apprentice draftsman with an Annapolis, MD landscape firm to an intern with Merchandise Mart Properties at The Washington Design Center, Ed Albers jumped into the world of interior design with passion. His career was jump started by receiving the 1999 Rehoboth Beach Town Cottage award for renovation at his home on Silverlake.
For this reason, Ed left his corporate job in Baltimore, MD and entered design school. In the summer of 2002, Ed opened Albers Design Group and has collaborated with clients, architects and other designers on residential and commercial design projects. Ed is an Allied Member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and served as a board member for the Maryland chapter of ASID.
Today, Ed is recognized as a dynamic innovator of classic design styles balanced with the best of contemporary. He is noted for his attention to detail, his ability to achieve well proportioned rooms and use of color. Inspired by natural ingredients, Ed has a keen sense of style combined with practicality. His ideas for comfort and style include luxurious fabrics, warm colors, great books, framed pictures of family and friends, living plants and flowers.
Supporting his partner's vision and dream for DCOR, Michael Cusumano is equally passionate about good design. His background includes eighteen years in sales and marketing and a partner in a successful event and planning business.
Manorborn, located in Valley Forge, PA was recognized for innovative design work and event planning. In its 5 year history, Manorborn served many client events throughout the suburbs of Philadelphia.
While not specifically trained as a designer, Michael has a complete understanding of space, color and materials. Not having any formal training puts him - and most other people looking at an empty room - at what could be called, an advantage.
